Owls were the chosen theme for this year’s Winter Renaissance Weekend with prizes on offer for the best three, hand-made owls presented on the “Owl Runway”. The range of owls entered in the competition far surpassed all expectations and added a great entertainment opportunity to an already riotous weekend.
A panel of judges (last year’s winners) deliberated over the fantastic range and extraordinarily high standard of entries to finally decide on the three winners.

Another “added extra” to the weekend came in little brown paper packets – a stash-buster lucky dip proving to be a great success although it was a bit confusing to understand how everyone’s stash benefited with a clean out when it was replaced with another’s stash. Work that one out! Denise did a sterling job in organising the packets and using her beautiful basket which was later auctioned for a very decent amount with all proceeds going to the Hobart Dogs Home.
A belated birthday was celebrated with all the bells and whistles and a most amazing cake decorated by the group’s famous cake decorator extraordinaire!
Across the weekend there was no shortage of craft projects in progress and, as usual, a lively variation of crafts.
Many thanks to Riverfront Motel and Villas at Rosetta in providing the perfect venue for our Renaissance Weekend. Not all the talent was indoors – nature provided us with a fantastic canvas of snow powdered hills and moody views of the River Derwent.
Friendships were rewarded with little surprises! Lovely thought Denise.
And to top off a fantastic weekend enjoyed by all, everyone was presented with a cute little felted owl brooch to take away as a memento – cheers Meike!
